Support Pancreatic Cancer Research

cvaoutjpg We’re less than one month away from The Carol Van Auken Golf Outing! On June 5, 2015, community members and businesses will showcase their support for pancreatic cancer research at the Indian Springs Country Club in Marlton, NJ.

Now in its ninth year, Carol Ann Van Auken-DeAngelo organizes this event in memory of her mother, who passed away from pancreatic cancer just six months after diagnosis. In America, cancer of the pancreas is the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths in both men and women. For 2015, the American Cancer Society estimates 48,960 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the U.S., and approximately 40,560 will die from the disease.

“Because of my experience with my mother, I’ve learned what the pain of losing someone to pancreatic cancer looks like in other people’s eyes,” said Van Auken-DeAngelo. “My family is passionate about hosting The Carol Van Auken Golf Outing year after year so we can help fund life saving research that will one day spare other families the same pain.”

In the last two years, the Carol Van Auken pancreatic cancer fundraising events have raised more than $30,000. The Van Auken family is hoping to exceed their goal of $20,000 for this year’s event.

Following a fun-filled day of golf, the event culminates with a dinner, raffle and famous silent auction. For 2015, highly-prized auction donations include Disney World Park Hopper passes, a four-day and three-night stay at the Crowne Plaza in Tampa, Florida, and tickets to the Adventure Aquarium in Camden, New Jersey. In addition, attendees have a chance to win autographed items from Blink 182, the Philadelphia 76ers, the Philadelphia Flyers and the Baltimore Ravens’ Joe Flacco.

“Each year we receive tremendous support from our community, and I’m grateful to see everyone’s willingness to help such a great cause,” said Courtney Van Auken, fundraising coordinator. “We’ve already received more than 70 donations for our 2015 silent auction and that number is growing each day. Being a part of this event is a very rewarding experience for me, and it has truly opened my eyes to what a wonderful support system we have in the Philadelphia region.”

Proceeds from the Carol Van Auken Golf Outing goes towards The Lustgarten Foundation, which donates 100 percent of their monies towards pancreatic cancer research.
